Birth or Death Certificates

BIRTH CERTIFICATES
The Office of Vital Records has records for births since 1900. For pre-1900 records, contact the county where the subject was born. A birth certificate is an official legal document. It shows the subject’s name, sex, date and place of birth, and parent(s) in a standard format; information is printed in all capital letters. A certified copy of your birth certificate is one of the documents you can use to apply for a Real ID driver’s license and other services.

One certified copy of a birth certificate costs $26 with additional copies, at the time of purchase, $19.00 each.

No-cost birth certificates are available for homeless youth and veterans. Check with your local recorder for more information about no-cost birth certificates.

Fill out the birth certificate request form and either mail it or bring it to your local Recorder’s office.
